Vintage Engine Department

Having been established since 1963 we have a great amount of experience working on vintage engines. We have comprehensive automotive workshop facilities which also include a white-metalling plant, line-borer, gear-cutting machines, and heat treatment facilities.

We have an excellent reputation within the vintage market having restored hundreds of classic engines. We regularly take on restoration jobs from enthusiasts, and restoration specialists. Some of whom want to modernise their engines, others who would prefer to keep their engines as original as possible. We can carry out white-metalling, unleaded petrol conversions, welding & fabrication work, engine balancing, any necessary machining, and have recently started metal stitching & ceramic sealing.

We have a highly equipped machine shop, and the machinists have years of experience working on vintage engines. Their high quality of workmanship & knowledge of materials, are essential, and often tested when working on restoration projects. Many of the vintage projects we work on require a large amount of reverse & bespoke engineering, and a great deal of technical knowledge, and highly skilled machining is necessary to plan and implement such repairs.

Agra is also heavily involved with historic motorsport. Our M.D. John, races Formula Junior, a single seater class which ran from the late 50's to the mid 60's. The Lotus 22 he drives is prepared in-house and is powered by a Ford MAE (Pre X-flow 1100cc) which produces 125+Bhp. We build all types of historic racing engines and offer engine development expertise as required.
